Munich, 03 August 2026. Gomorrah – The Origins has ranked among the top television shows of 2026 in the UK according to local media. It was praised by The Guardian as “so stylish you'll look for Al Pacino”, while the Financial Times highlighted it as "playful and atmospheric". 

 

While The Guardian celebrates Gomorrah – The Origins on its cast, saying “it’s so wonderfully rich that the Godfather cast wouldn’t be out of place”, the Financial Times speaks highly of the show “Gomorrah – The Origins is reminiscent of the excellent (…) adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan quartet”. Further, The Upcoming describes the series as “a masterclass in atmosphere and tension”, and “a frequently phenomenal thriller”. 

 

Gomorrah – The Origins has won the “Best Creation” at the 65th Monte Carlo Television Festival and was nominated for “Best TV Series - Crime” at Nastri d'Argento Grandi Serie 2026.  

 

Gomorrah – The Origins is inspired by Roberto Saviano’s bestselling novel, exploring Don Pietro Savastano’s early years. It is directed by Marco D'Amore and Francesco Ghiaccio, starring Luca Lubrano, Francesco Pellegrino (The Miracle Child), Flavio Furno, Tullia Venezia and Fabiola Balestriere. Beta Film has sold the six-hour series Gomorrah – The Origins to Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK, HBO Max Germany, HBO Max Türkiye, SBS Australia, STUDIOCANAL in France, ORF (Austrian Broadcasting Corporation) in Austria, TET in Latvia, and Nova in Greece, among others. 

 

Set in Naples in 1977, the series follows the story of Pietro, a tough city kid who grew up in the poorest parts of Secondigliano. When he manages to get into the good graces of the young boss, Angelo 'A Sirena, Pietro finds himself caught in a power game far beyond him. He ends up wondering whether this dark, violent criminal life is really what he wants, or if his love for Imma can save him from such a fate.
